Key speakers included Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine, Kristina Prasolova, Advisor of Minister for Communities, Anna Yurchenko, Deputy Minister, Roman Waschuk, Business Ombudsman, and Oleksandra Azarkhina, Deputy Minister. Key subjects included an exposition of the immediate priorities for Ukraine, which include logistics and opening the Black Sea routes for agricultural and steel exports. Beyond that, sector support includes construction and waste recycling, energy and building materials especially plate glass and PVC. The intention with Energy and construction is to build back better, with greener and more efficient, new facilities, eco friendly and new types of generators. In general, there is an appetite to rebuild to international best practice standards, such as EU, and UKR advisory are in the process of developing a procurement platform, with help of the World Bank, for investment and procurement, that will be transparent and based on best practice legal and regulatory norms and avoiding corruption, hopefully due in October. This platform will accommodate both products and services, such as consultancy and engineering, and not based on price alone, but on quality and expertise and will be open to all (650) advisory members and local UKR companies. In relation to local UKR companies, they are capable of rebuilding and providing 90% of construction materials, and most can pay their employees in full, despite 16% of UKR companies suffering $10m of losses but are 26% intent on investing at least $10m in 2024 with an average of $8m and may form useful partners for international companies. Finally, the advice is to work closely with local regions as they know their needs best and can respond most flexibly. UBBC members ZHA and G4S asked questions on accreditation, overcoming bureaucracy, and supporting women entrepreneurs.
