A UBBC team attended the Industry Forum reception in House of Parliament on Wednesday 22nf April. Industry Forum is a centre left think tank and business network focused on the interaction between business and government. The two speakers were Emily Darlington MP of the Science and Technology select committee, and a government affairs speaker from Vodafone. It was interesting to note how Emily explained the importance of business and local and national government working together helps create innovation and an ecology of networks, using mobile data in cities such as Milton Keynes, where she is MP. Here, one in five jobs are in IT and the city has a network of robotic delivery vehicles for groceries to help reduce traffic. Digital data now has to be considered as an essential component of modern infrastructure, that enables work, business and the smooth running of communities, and in this case evolving the UK’s digital sovereignty.
It was interesting to note how the more pragmatic, less controversial aspects of business roll on, despite the political storms that pass, and this discussion was a good example of how business and local and national government can work together.
Other attendees included associations such as the packaging association, SME groups, lawyers and Tech entrepreneurs.
